Do you have a mobility issue? If so, all the walking at Disney World can result in unwanted pain. In many cases, walking this much is physically impossible or potentially dangerous.

If this describes you, then I highly recommend renting a wheelchair when you visit Disney World.

Luckily, there are many options for wheelchairs. Below, I have listed the best and most used companies, highlighting the differences and things to consider.

Here is a quick summary of the BEST Disney World wheelchair rental companies, depending on your situation:

  • Best Overall: Buena Vista Rentals – A great combination of pickup and delivery options, customer service, wheelchair options, and price.
  • Best for POWERED Wheelchairs: Scootaround– In fact, they are the only company on this list that offers electric wheelchairs and powerchairs.
  • Best for PEDIATRIC Wheelchairs: ScooterBug – If you need a wheelchair for a child, this is the only company below that offers them.
  • Cheapest: There was no clear winner regarding the least expensive wheelchair rentals at Disney World. It depends on the type of wheelchair, length of stay, delivery needs, accessories, and other factors.
  • Best for Single Day rentals: Disney World – Rent a wheelchair directly from Disney at the front of the theme park or Disney Springs.

#1. Buena Vista Rentals

best company for wheelchairs at disney world

By booking your wheelchair through this link, you will receive a FREE accessory courtesy of Resort Rat.

Buena Vista Rentals has served Disney World guests since 1995, providing high-quality wheelchairs and stellar customer service. They offer a range of wheelchairs with different carrying capacities and padding options.

Delivery and Pickup Options:

  • Disney Resorts: Buena Vista Rentals delivers to all hotels at Disney World for FREE. Upon rental, you can select a handful of delivery times for your resort. You must meet with the driver for delivery and pickup.
  • Non-Disney Resort: If your hotel is near Disney, they should deliver it there for free. Depending on the distance, they may charge a small delivery fee.
  • Pickup: They are one of the only companies that rent wheelchairs that you can pick up from their warehouse yourself. By doing so, you save 10%! Their address is 7330 Exchange Dr #80, Orlando, FL 32809, roughly a 15-minute drive from Disney World.

If you need delivery to a vacation home or private residence, please get in touch with Buena Vista Rentals directly to inquire about options.

Wheelchair types and pricing:

Buena Vista Rentals has four wheelchair options available.

The first difference you will find between the wheelchairs is the carrying capacity. It is either a maximum of 300 lbs with a 20-inch seat or 400 lbs with a 24-inch seat.

The second difference is whether you want a padded seat or not.

Pricing varies by how many days you want to rent the wheelchair. Buena Vista Rentals is the only company on our list to provide up to 35-day rental rates.

Their least expensive option is a standard manual wheelchair. It is $50 for three days. Add $10 extra for every day you need it after three days.

The most expensive option is a padded wheelchair with a 24-inch seat, which can carry up to 400 pounds. It is $85 for three days. Add $20 for every day you need it after three days.

The company offers an optional non-refundable $20 damage waiver along with various accessories.

Rental policies and customer service:

Buena Vista Rentals recommends renting your wheelchair as far ahead as possible of your stay, requiring at least 48 hours for online reservations. If you need one immediately, availability can be limited.

Cancellations require at least 48 hours advance notice. Anything less than 48 hours of scheduled delivery will require a cancellation charge. If you cancel less than 24 hours before your rental, you will be charged a one or two-day rental fee.

Advantages & Disadvantages:

Buena Vista Rentals has an outstanding reputation for renting wheelchairs to Disney World visitors. They have been around for a long time and consistently receive excellent customer reviews.

They also rent scooters and strollers, so it’s the perfect company to use for all your rental needs!

#2. Scooterbug

wheelchair rentals disney world - scooterbug

Scooterbug is Disney World’s featured wheelchair rental company. If you are staying at a Disney World resort, they are the ONLY company authorized to drop off your wheelchair without physically meeting you. That means when you get to the resort, the wheelchair will be waiting for you, saving you precious time!

Any other company on this list can drop off a wheelchair to a Disney World resort, but you will have to schedule a time to meet them upon arrival, and once again to drop it back off.

Wheelchair types and pricing:

Scooterbug has four wheelchair types available. The differences come down to the width, weight, and carrying capacity (how much you weigh). They also have a pediatric wheelchair option for kids.

You can also add accessories like a bag hook and bottle holder.

Wheelchair Price Range:

Pricing for wheelchairs varies through ScooterBug, depending on the model you choose. The total cost decreases the more days you rent. For example, if you rent an 18” Compact for one day, the total is $40. But if you were to rent for four days, the cost would be about $12.50 per day.

Wheelchair pickup and drop-off:

ScooterBug delivers wheelchairs to over 300 hotels in the Orlando area, including all the Disney World resorts. You will set up the delivery and pickup when you book. In most cases, you won’t have to be present when the wheelchair is delivered. It will be waiting for you upon arrival.

Contact them directly for options if you are staying at an Airbnb or other vacation rental.

Cancellation policy:

For cancellations prior to 48 hours of your rental, call their customer service team (800-726-8284) for a full refund. A fee may apply if you cancel within the 48-hour window.

Advantages & Disadvantages:

Being the featured provider through Disney World, they are a trusted source for wheelchair rentals. Pricing is slightly higher than other companies in the area, but they have many wheelchair options to choose from, and you do not need to be present at delivery or pickup (which is a BIG perk).

The biggest disadvantage I have found is availability. I have found it incredibly challenging to find dates where ScooterBug has wheelchairs that are available to rent!

#3. Rent a wheelchair directly from Disney World

If you need a wheelchair at the last minute, you can rent it from Disney World! Rentals are available at all the theme and water parks and Disney Springs. The rental area can be found near the entrance of whichever park you are visiting.

Below is where you can rent wheelchairs while visiting Magic Kingdom.

Please be aware that the Disney World wheelchairs are on a first-come, first-served basis. If you need a wheelchair, make this your first stop and get there early! On busy days, it’s possible for Disney to run out of wheelchairs to rent.

Additionally, you CANNOT make reservations for these wheelchairs.

Wheelchair types and pricing:

Disney provides basic wheelchairs designed with a 350-pound capacity. If you have specific preferences for your rental, consider a third party with multiple options available.

All rentals have a daily $12 rate.

Length of Stay rentals allow you to pre-pay all the days you need a wheelchair. That way, you can visit any theme park (or multiples if you’re park hopping) and simply grab a wheelchair. Length of Stay rentals are $10 per day instead of the standard $12.

Please note that you can’t leave the parks with a Disney World wheelchair!

Disney World does not allow wheelchairs to leave or transfer between theme parks.

For example, if you rent a wheelchair at Magic Kingdom, you can’t take it to Disney Springs later. When you leave Magic Kingdom, you will drop it off at the front of the park. Once you get to Disney Springs, show them your rental receipt to secure another wheelchair.

As you can see, if you need a wheelchair outside the parks, renting from a third party is your BEST option.

But, if you just need a wheelchair for a day to help navigate one of the theme parks, getting a wheelchair directly from Disney World is a convenient option.

#4. Scootaround

Pickup and Delivery Options:

Scootaround offers FREE delivery and pickup for wheelchair rentals within 25 miles of Disney World with a minimum 2-day rental.

If you are staying at a Disney World resort, you must schedule a time upon arrival to physically meet your driver.

But if you are staying at a non-Disney hotel or a vacation rental, then it’s very possible that Scootaround can drop the wheelchair off without you being present. Please inquire directly with them if you have questions because this policy can vary depending on location.

You can also pick up your rental directly from their warehouse; in return, you’ll receive a 10% discount. It’s located at 7703 Kingspointe Pkwy #400, Orlando, FL 32819, which is about 20 minutes from Disney World.

Wheelchair types and pricing:

Scootaround has a wide variety of wheelchairs for you to choose from, including two powered options!

  • Standard wheelchairs: options for weights between 250 – 400 lbs. $15/day for 3-day rental.
  • WHILL Model Ci: a powerful and agile electric wheelchair. $32/day for 3-day rental.
  • Rollator/walkers: $14/day for a 3-day rental.
  • Powerchairs: Two types offer a 300-lb or 450-lb carrying capacity at $ 38/day for a 3-day rental.

In our opinion, if you need a manual wheelchair, more affordable options may be available. But, if you want the convenience of a powered option, then definitely consider Scootaround.

Cancellation Policy:

Scootaround has an incredibly restrictive wheelchair cancellation policy. I will do my best to summarize below.

  • If you give seven or more days’ notice, they charge a $25 cancellation fee on wheelchairs ($50 for powerchairs). Also, you don’t get a refund for the remainder but instead get credit on a future rental.
  • If less than seven days notice is given, they charge a $50 cancellation fee ($100 for powerchairs)! The remainder can be used as a credit on a future rental.
  • Cancellations that occur on or after the delivery date are completely non-refundable. No credit will be issued.
  • The cancellation fee can’t exceed 50% of the total equipment cost.

As you can see, if you book with them, make sure your plans don’t change!

Advantages & Disadvantages:

Regarding free delivery, Scootaround has the biggest delivery range of its competitors. Also, looking at their pricing, they offer competitive pricing on wheelchair rentals for Disney World.

But their cancellation policy is by far the WORST of any company on this list!

#5. Walker Mobility

Walker Mobility provides high-quality wheelchair rentals for Disney World and cruises leaving Port Canaveral. This is especially helpful if you combine a Disney Cruise and Disney World stay into one trip!

Meet-and-greet delivery is available at all Disney World resorts and surrounding areas.

Look at the bottom of their website for a “Delivery Check.” Just put in your hotel to see if they deliver to your hotel.

Wheelchair types and pricing:

Walker Mobility has two different types of manual wheelchairs available.

  • Their first option has an 18-inch seat and can hold up to 225 pounds. It costs $70 for a 3-day rental (~$23/day).

  • The second option has a 20-inch seat and can hold up to 265 lbs. It costs $75 for a 3-day rental ($25/day).

Their base pricing is higher than other companies, but they offer a great deal for long-term wheelchair rentals. If you look at their pricing, it’s only $5 extra for every day you rent.

At this time, they do not offer any powered wheelchairs.

Walker Mobility sometimes offers seasonal discounts. For the new year, they offered 20% off new orders. They also offer a 10% discount for military and DVC members.

Customer Support and Cancellations:

You can call Walker Mobility (407-518-6000) anytime from Monday to Sunday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., for assistance. This can help you with last-minute questions or issues you’re experiencing with your rental. Their warehouse is open every day, starting at 7 a.m.

There is no penalty for cancellations within 48 hours of your rental date. Rental cancellations within 24 hours of your delivery time are subject to a $35 fee.
